Woods Engineering designs and manufactures custom valve train components to optimise performance, accommodate changes to an engine setup, or provide components where suitable off-the-shelf options aren't available.

Components can be developed around changes in valve dimensions, spring height and pressure, spring location, valve stem seals and component clearances, with each part designed specifically for the engine and valve train.

SPRING RETAINERS AND SPRING SEATS

Valve spring retainers and spring seats can be designed and manufactured from 4140 chrome-moly steel, providing a precise solution where suitable off-the-shelf options are limited or unavailable. Titanium is also available upon request.

Custom retainers and spring seats can provide many advantages:

  • Adjustable installed spring height, allowing valve spring pressures to be accurately controlled

  • Additional clearance for rocker arms, rocker covers and other components

  • Accommodation of different valve spring diameters

  • Accurate valve stem seal clearances

  • Precise control of spring location

VALVE GUIDES

Valve guides can be custom-made to suit a wide range of engine and valve train requirements, whether replacing worn or obsolete guides or accommodating changes to the existing setup.

Custom valve guides can address:

  • Worn valve guides

  • Oversized guide outer diameters

  • Aftermarket valve stem seal fitting and compatibility

  • Changes in valve stem diameter

  • Obsolete or unavailable replacement parts

  • Improved spring seat location and stability — an often-overlooked factor that can reduce unwanted spring movement and associated wear
